At the Slope side Hotel Saint Bernard in Taos Ski Valley New Mexico the power of visualization is evident. One of the most classic and personal Ski Hotel experiences in the world, the Hotel Saint Bernard is the vision of proprietor Jean Mayer. While attending Hotel school in France in the 1950's, Jean visualized this mountain sanctuary with the french style of friendliness and Hospitality. With a tiny village and a big mountain, the Hotel Saint Bernard is the perfect example of the Taos Ski Valley Experience. Taos Ski Week is a full immersion experience in the world of skiing. While staying at the mountain, students have the same instructors and classmates for an entire week. This is a learning experience that has kept Taos Ski Valley the #1 Ski School in America for the last 20 years. Mayer has had guests that have returned every year for the past 50 years.

Photographs in the slideshow allow you to experience a day at the Hotel Saint Bernard, from home cooked breakfast until the final late night revelers leave the dance floor. Jean Mayer crafts the Hotel Saint Bernard experience to be unlike any other in the world, with attention to detail and genuine personal care, Mayer proves himself to be  a journeyman of the hotel craft. Following the tradition of the french "pension" all guests needs are met, physically, spiritually and emotionally. In the world of Hospitality and New Mexico Resorts, Jean is a definite gold medalist.

When you find yourself loading onto Chair two at the base of Taos Ski Valley, you will experience some of the Hotel Saint Bernards most potent advertising. Travelling within thirty feet of the kitchen exhaust fan, you will experience the delights of world class cuisine mingled with the spicy scent of Pinon wood burning in the fireplace. Food and Dining is such an important aspect of the Hotel Saint Bernard. The creativity, quality and exceptional personal care put into each dish by Jean and his staff is unmatched. This is food to delight even the most discerning of palates. Many of the staff that contribute to the Hotel Saint Bernard experience have been on staff with Jean for over 30 years. Jean himself takes a great pleasure in serving every meal and maintaining personal contact with each guest. This shows his genuine commitment to providing personalized, world class service.

The fusion of European and New Mexican created by the Resort Hotel Saint Bernard would not be complete without one of the finest wine cellars in the southwest. Jean and Evan Blish have searched the world to find wines that perfectly complement the sumptuous cuisine. A truly sensuous experience, the Hotel Saint Bernard is a classic European resort transported to the mountains of New Mexico. The food, decor and sound of friends laughing truly creates a unique and fantastic experience.

Jean and the Hotel Saint Bernard embody the true spirit of skiing. Jean teaches all of his students with a genuine enthusiasm, from guests to groups of kids from the Taos Pueblo. He challenges and inspires all of his students to reach inside themselves and feel the essence of the technique. A true teacher and perpetual student of skiing, Jean takes it upon himself to research and master the latest techniques. These techniques are then presented to both his students and the Taos Ski School, of which he is the technical director. Using concepts such as "you must make love to the mountain" or "skiing is just a dance, dance like this" Jean is able to make technique accessible to any level of skier. Jean has even been known to pass on this wisdom to his staff, telling them "I am seeing you ski the whole way for the entire season, you must understand that my skiing is in Metamorphosis".

Winter isn't the only season to enjoy the Hotel Saint Bernard. In the summer months you are bound to find the resort filled with some of the finest young musicians in the world. The Taos School of Music is based in the hotel during the summer months, providing students with a place for peaceful practice and brilliant instruction. Clients of the Hotel Saint Bernard are also welcome to keep it all in the family when visiting Paris. Jean's nephew Kri Mayer has an American Driver in Paris a service dedicated to chauffeuring guests and showing them the sights with the classic Mayer family sense of hospitality.

The community of the Hotel Saint Bernard is a tapestry of passionate people combined with the perfect place. Jean is at heart a humble man and will no doubt feel that this praise is too much, but Jean is the true spirit of the Saint Bernard with a heart that touches and inspires so many.
